It has been 25 years since the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) adopted its Life Settlements Model Act, which, whilst undergoing several adjustments since then, remains one of the foundational frameworks upon which the secondary life settlement market base their regulatory regimes. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the seemingly constant need for investor education in the market. Greg Winterton spoke to Raffaele Dell’Amore, Investment Managing Director at Cambridge Associates and Scott Rose, Partner at Fifth Season Investments, to get their views on the subject in Investor Education a Perpetual Requirement for the Life Settlement Market – But Necessary to Support Growth.

The increasing frequency and magnitude of cyber-attacks on British businesses have prompted the UK’s pensions industry to consider its own resilience, especially during de-risking processes when scheme members’ data is at a heightened state of vulnerability. Mark McCord spoke to Daniel Taylor, Director at Trafalgar House and Alan Greenlees, Professional Trustee at ZEDRA, to get their thoughts on how the UK pension risk transfer market currently sees cybersecurity risk in UK Pension Risk Transfer Market Urged to Heighten Focus on Cybersecurity Diligence.

Under optimistic scenarios, new research from Swiss Re projects that GLP-1 medications could reduce all-cause mortality in the US by as much as 6.4% by 2045. But the life settlement market works with healthier, wealthier clients than the average American. Greg Winterton spoke to Dr. Rahul Nawander, Medical Director at Fasano Underwriting, and Chris Conway, Chief Development Officer at ISC Services, to get their views on the outlook for the market in New Research Shows the Potential Extent of the Impact of GLP-1 Drugs on Mortality.

Over the last two centuries, average life spans have doubled but the story is becoming more complex. Lane Clark & Peacock Partners Stuart MacDonald, Ben Rees and Chris Tavener reflect on what’s happening to longevity in Are We Still Living Longer? What Longevity Trends Mean for Pensions and Insurers, a guest article.

The life settlement market has never been more mature and experienced, and ELSA is well placed to continue to lead from the front in terms of the awareness and education effort, driving standards, and fostering collaboration among market participants to continue to push the industry to higher highs. Bill Corry, General Partner at Corry Capital Advisors and current ELSA Chair, provides his thoughts on the past year and his hopes for the future in Reflections and Roadmaps: The Previous and Upcoming 12 Months at ELSA, our second guest article this month.

Longevity and Mortality Investor (LMI) is the new name for Life Risk News. I spoke with Greg Winterton to discuss the reasons behind the rebrand, my thoughts on how the longevity and mortality markets have evolved in recent years, and plans for the future in this month’s Q&A.

Another US government financial year is in the books for the agency-backed US reverse mortgage market, and, for the first time since 2022, the market has grown. But activity remains near historical lows, so Greg Winterton spoke to Michael McCully, Partner at New View Advisors to get his views on the outlook for the next year in US Reverse Mortgage Market Returns to Growth but Frustrations Remain.

We hope you enjoy the latest issue of Longevity and Mortality Investor.
